Heralds Cuban exiles, including the early cigar workers who established the district. As you’ll learn in the museum, the industry’s heyday lasted from 1886 when Don Vicente Martinez Ybor arrived from Key West into the 1950s, when cigar makers moved most of their operations into the cheaper labor markets of the Caribbean. At its peak, Ybor City was a boom town brought to life with shops, restaurants and social clubs. The museum spans half of a city block and includes a restored cigar worker’s home and the historic Ferlita Bakery. The best way to see this charming slice of yesterday is on foot. There are parking spaces up and down Broadway (which doubles as La Septima Avenida or Seventh Avenue). Just to the west (left) of 21st Street is the historic.
